FAQs

Do I need to poke every hole?

No. For best results, use only one color set of holes per press to give each plant the right amount of space and avoid overcrowding.

Where is my funnel?

Don't despair, your funnel is there! Flip your Seeding Square over. The funnel should be clipped onto the back of the center hole. We wanted the wand and the funnel to "stick" to the Seeding Square so you can move around the garden without keeping track of pieces - so the wand has a magnet, and the funnel clicks on. We tried to think of everything.

Is it only for small gardens?

Not at all. It works beautifully in small beds and large gardens alike. You can repeat the same spacing to create long, straight rows in bigger plots.

What if I lose or damage my planting guide?

A digital PDF package is available for a one-time fee. It includes the guide, instructions, an herb spacing guide, and a companion planting chart.

Will I really grow more vegetables using this?

Yes. Optimized spacing can increase your harvest compared to traditional row gardening, while also reducing room for weeds.

Will I get as many vegetables out of my garden if I use a Seeding Square?

Is it a toy or a real garden tool?

It may look playful, but it’s a practical gardening tool designed for vegetable gardens. The bright colors make it easy to use and easy to spot outdoors.

Can I use it for seedlings instead of seeds?

Absolutely. Use it to mark consistent planting spots, then place your seedlings directly into the prepared holes.

How many do I need?

One is typically all you need. Use it on planting day, rinse it off, and store it until your next round of planting.

How big is Seeding Square?

The faceplate is a foot by a foot and the side walls are an inch in depth. It brings the concept of Square-Foot-Gardening to a whole new level!

If I'm planting Seedings can I still use the Seeding Sqaure

You bet! Use the Seeding Square to poke the appropriate holes in the soil, now instead of dropping in seeds, you will use the poked holes as your indicator of where to plant each seedling.

Love this overall and takes all the guesswork out of planting seeds. The only thing is the reference card is unlaminated and would definitely get destroyed in no time being handled with dirty gardening hands. I took mine to Staples before I used it the first time and had it laminated.

I was a little embarrassed to be using this where all the neighbours walk by, and I can’t even use the excuse that I’m homeschooling any longer! BUT I have to say, that I was able to plant twice as many, if not three times as many vegetables in my garden using this than the way I traditionally plant!! Our Story

As frustrated new gardeners we wanted a tool to make vegetable gardening easier. So we made one.

Karl and I wanted to give our kids the experience of growing vegetables - something we both enjoyed growing up. So we rolled up our sleeves and put in our first garden. Then the weeds showed up. Being new gardeners, we had a hard time identifying plant friend vs foe. That first garden didn't end up as we hoped. After discovering no tool existed to make the planting and tending of a garden easier, we researched different gardening approaches. We ended up applying the textbook knowledge of Square Foot Gardening into a color-coded template. It worked so well we knew it needed to be brought to the world! Crowd funding and even a pitch on Canada's version of Shark Tank were part of our process. (They fought over it BTW.) We hope you love our creation as much as we do! Happy Planting! ~Jen
