Well made

It has a little spout at the back of the dipper that drains the liquid out and leaves the fat in the ladle. Now that's really a genius idea. I've been looking for something like this for a while. When I've cooked soups, stews, or even meats this would've came in handy, but instead I was using a regular spoon to skim the fat. So, this will come in handy when I make those types of meals. This ladle is made of stainless steel and is very durable and sturdy, this is also dishwasher safe.

It really works

I wasn't sure if this would be gimmicky or if it would actually work, so I was delighted to find that it really does work as advertised. I frequently make broth from leftover meat/bones from meals and can it, and I usually end up having to put the broth in the fridge so the fat will congeal so I can remove it (very important for canning) before I can actually can it the next day. With this, I can skim the fat right away when the broth is still hot, allowing me to can it right away. I already tried it out on a batch and it was great.

Finally a great cooking tool

I cook a lot. Most times I cook a large pot of gumbo, stew, soup, or homemade broth. I skim the flat off the top with a flat metal spoon, but always miss some grease or take too much of the good stuff. This has helped tremendously with skimming the majority of the fat and leaving the good stuff in the pot.

Works well for fatty soups

Andrew (Verified Buyer) 5/5

I like to use the bones after roasted chicken, turkey, or ham to make stocks, but the downside is every time, it becomes very fatty or oily. I have been chilling the stock in the fridge to solidify the fat and removing it, but this ladle is a good option if you need the stock or broth quick. You skim the top, and with a slight tilt, the fat remains in the ladle, but the soup portion drains out the back. It does take longer, but it is effective still.

This is what we were looking for

It works pretty well, decent materials, not cheap & flimsy.
