Pezzy Pet Treats Devil Fish Strips

Pezzy is turning a hated, invasive fish into tasty single ingredient treats that your pet will love!

These crunchy jerky strips are made by slowly dehydrating hand-cut slices of wild Mexican devil fish caught by a team of artisanal fishermen. These single ingredient treats are just that! Fish and nothing else.

The invasive devil fish currently accounts for up to 70% of the catch where Pezzy is based and has decimated native fish populations. Each bite of these fish strips help restore the ecosystem! These devil fish strips are high in protein and low in fat, making them the perfect snack for dogs and cats.

Treats are hypoallergenic and grain free. Fish strips are similar in size and texture to dried minnows and smelt. Pezzy jerky strips can be served whole or broken into bite-sized pieces for smaller pets, making them great as a healthy treat or even a meal topper!

Our Story

My Journey Turning Invasive Fish Into Tasty, Eco-Friendly Pet Treats!

I moved to Tabasco, Mexico as a Fulbright researcher in 2014 to study small-scale fisheries and fish farming. Quickly, through my research, I came across the infamous "pez diablo" or devil fish, typically known as the armored catfish. This fish, originally from South America, is considered across Mexico and at least a dozen countries around the world. It outcompetes native species and has decimated native fisheries as well as the economies that depend on them.

I first started giving workshops in local communities to promote its consumption and soon partnered with local fishermen to sell devil fish to restaurants throughout Mexico. I soon realized there was a greater opportunity to create impact, however, and began working on devil fish pet treats. And that's how Pezzy was born!
