Is this kit suitable for children?

The kit is recommended for ages 12 and up. It contains small pieces and a utility knife, so adult supervision is required.

Do I need any tools or glue?

No nails, screws, or glue are required. The interlocking wooden pieces fit together seamlessly, locking into place.

How difficult is the puzzle?

It has a difficulty level of 3, offering a fun challenge for beginners and puzzle enthusiasts alike.

How big is the finished chair?

The completed rocker measures 9.5" tall, 5" wide, and 5.875" deep.

Where is it made?

Each kit is crafted from locally sourced Tennessee hickory wood.

What is the leftover wood for?

The leftover hickory panels make exceptional smoking wood. We've included our Tennessee Hickory Smoked Pork Loin recipe and Tennessee Hot Slaw recipe. Because in Tennessee, nothing goes to waste.

Welcome to my Tennessee woodshop! Thank you for visiting my website and taking a moment to read my story and history of the Puzzle Rocker. I am passionate about building a quality wooden puzzle that is unique, fun, and full of history and charm. This is a product that you will not find anywhere else – a great gift for those hard to buy for loved ones that have everything and want nothing. It is truly unique, and I am honored to be able to share this with you.

This journey began half a century ago when my dad found an old, dilapidated porch rocker made of interlocking pieces at an auction in Hartsville, TN in the late 70s. Being intrigued by its design, he placed his bid and won the rocker for $5.  After setting up a small woodshop in his garage, he began making the rocker to sell at local venues. He had some successes along the way, but life and his career overshadowed time in the shop and eventually it sat idle. I then started making the rocker in my twenties. I gave away more than I sold but enjoyed the challenge making this unique rocker. I especially enjoyed seeing everyone’s reaction when they realized the rocker was just as much of a puzzle as it was a fully functional rocker that is strong enough to hold a grown man comfortably. There are no nails, screws, or glue – just interlocking pieces that hold that the rocker together.

Fast forward four decades, we are still making these rockers. While I do not know who made the original rocker years ago, its interlocking design is similar to the Chuck Puzzle that was patented in 1897 by Edward Nelson. The joinery and locking mechanism are the same for both 3D puzzles. However, once you solve the assembly of the adult size puzzle rocker, you can sit and enjoy it for years to come.

Over the years we have found ways to expand on the initial design to include a made-to-scale replica of the adult-size rocker. We believe the miniature puzzle rocker will become a classic puzzle that collectors and wooden puzzle enthusiasts will enjoy solving.
